If you've been with me for awhile, you know my stance on trends. Many of them come & go, so you want to keep them at about 25% - 30% makeup of your wardrobe. They are meant to be fun & add variety to your style each season. This is not where you want to do your big splurge, but definitely worth checking a few of them out. My rule of thumb is to pick 2 or 3 that you would like to try. This will avoid overwhelm and help you keep your closet in check.
To be honest, I'm quite excited about the trends this year. Some of them are actually styles I would wear year after year. There are quite a bit of them, but I pulled the 10 that I think work well for the working woman. Let's get started:
Orange - You will see orange everywhere in the stores this spring/summer. It's the color designers are leading with in a major way. Of course you can wear orange whenever you want, but this year, it's just simply in the spotlight. If it's a color you love, load up!
White Lace - This one I saw coming a few seasons ago. It is such a fresh, fun, and feminine style to wear. If you need to ease into it, you can start with lace detail in your blouse. If you want to go all in, try a dress.
Suede - Remember when you were told to only wear suede in the fall/winter months?! Well, that is no longer. Suede was hot on the runway for Spring 2016. The awesome part about this is that the trend has also settled into shoes. So, if you haven't grasped the thought of wearing a suede outfit in the spring/summer, you can wear suede sandals!
Ankle-tie shoes - Speaking of shoes. Lace up shoes are super hot right now. Personally, I love the way ankle tie shoes look, but darn are they more work. I will probably reserve this one for special occasions :)
Long earrings - I'm a stud earrings gal but it sure is fun to switch it up once in awhile. Long earrings are gorgeous to wear especially when you are going without a necklace. Let the earrings make the statement. To preserve your ears, opt for a clip-on for these babies. They can be a bit heavy on your ears.
Lingerie-inspired - This one has been in & out of the trend-scene. This season you will see lots of dresses, tops, suits with a lingerie-look. This can be a tricky one for my working gals. One way to try it is with a camisole or blouse with a blazer on top. Just be mindful that it does give more sexy than others.
Off-the-shoulder - This style reminds me of the 70s & the 90s. Such a beautiful & feminine look and easy to do for the warmer months. Keep the details simple. The elegance is in the neckline.
Bold stripes - Though stripes are timeless, this season they are adding a bolder approach to it. Designers are playing with the size dimensions of the stripes & using bolder colors to create more interest & variety.
Fringe - So excited about this one! The fringe is everywhere from shoes & purses to dresses & coats. If you are into details & texture, you will love this one. Try it!
Lightweight Denim - There has been so much denim on denim going on. Flashback to the 90s. If this one feels like a stretch, you can always invest in a chambray shirt. It's a timeless classic!
